Historical sketch
Organizations have existed for the alumni of Carnegie Mellon University since its first commencement in 1908 (then the Carnegie Technical Schools). First, each school had its own organization, but in 1912 these were combined into a General Alumni Association. In 1919, the group was reorganized and became the Alumni Federation. In 1967, the name was changed back to the Alumni Association.
Carnegie Mellon University has held many events for alumni over the years, including banquets, homecoming events, and trips to different locations around the world sponsored by the Alumni Association. The university also publishes a magazine for its alumni, which began as the C.I.T. Alumnus in 1914 and, after several name changes, is now the Carnegie Mellon Today.
